چکیده
SFI Working Papers contain accounts of scienti5ic work of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the Santa Fe Institute. We accept papers intended for publication in peer-‐reviewed journals or proceedings volumes, but not papers that have already appeared in print. Except for papers by our external faculty, papers must be based on work done at SFI, inspired by an invited visit to or collaboration at SFI, or funded by an SFI grant.

Di¤erential Oligopoly Games where the Closed-Loop Memoryless and Open-Loop Equilibria Coincide
We illustrate two di¤erential oligopoly games using, respectively, the capital accumulation dynamics à la Nerlove-Arrow, and the capital accumulation dynamics à la Ramsey. We prove that these games bene...t from the property that closed-loop memoryless solutions degenerate into open-loop solutions, since the best reply of a generic ...rm is independent of the rivals’ state variables, which enta...
متن کاملThermodynamic uncertainty relations again: A reply to Lavenda
In a previous paper (Found. Phys. 29, 655, (1999)), we have presented a review of various approaches in the literature towards the derivation of so-called thermodynamic uncertainty relations in statistical thermodynamics. This review has been critical. We have argued that some of these approaches are sound, i.e. they reach a valid conclusion, albeit under restricted conditions, whereas others w...
متن کاملReply to “Commentary on Photosynthesis and Negative Entropy Production by Jennings and coworkers” by J. Lavergne
It is argued that the chemical potential analogy does not provide useful information on the thermodynamics of photosystems, as the thermodynamic efficiency of an absorbed quantum is not considered. Instead, the approach based on either entropy balance or entropy flux considerations does provide this information. At high thermodynamic efficiencies, primary photochemistry can, in principle, viola...
متن کاملThermodynamics of the binary symmetric channel
We study a hidden Markov process which is the result of a transmission of the binary symmetric Markov source over the memoryless binary symmetric channel. This process has been studied extensively in Information Theory and is often used as a benchmark case for the so-called denoising algorithms. Exploiting the link between this process and the 1D Random Field Ising Model (RFIM), we are able to ...
